Human–AI Interaction

How people and AI shape each other

A scholar talks with a pale blue humanoid companion over an open book in a library reading room.

About the Program

Working with AI changes how people think, decide, and work. AI systems, in turn, can be built to adapt to the people using them. This program studies both directions: the cognitive and psychological effects of sustained AI use on individuals, and how AI systems can better adapt to individual personalities and cognitive preferences.

Research Areas

  • Effects of AI use on cognition, judgment, and skill

  • Psychological effects of working alongside AI agents

  • Individual differences in how people work with AI

  • Adapting AI behavior to personality and cognitive style

  • Implications for organizational design and the development of people

Current Projects

Survey of research on human–AI interaction

A structured review of the existing literature on the cognitive and psychological effects of AI use, establishing the baseline for the program's own work.
