WG4 - The Global Agent Economy

Context

AI agents will increasingly coordinate economic activity among humans, firms, and other AI agents. They will discover and curate products and services, negotiate terms, supervise performance, and take corrective action as necessary.

There is growing excitement around “agentic commerce”. AI agents discovering and purchasing products and services on behalf of humans. Enterprise supply chains where AI agents source, negotiate, and coordinate work are the same underlying system at a larger scale. We refer to this emerging reality as the Global Agent Economy.

AI agents will reshape supply chains, reduce coordination costs, accelerate growth, and challenge the traditional firm as the primary unit of economic organization. The implications for infrastructure, governance, and competition are profound.

The Global Agent Economy introduces new challenges around trust, identity, governance, and accountability in agent-to-agent interactions. As supply chains for products and services become increasingly AI-mediated, they will require new approaches to coordination, monitoring, and control.
