WG1 - Leadership and Human Development

Context

Leadership in a time of accelerating uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity is one of the great challenges in society today. AI, in particular, has emerged as a technology that affects leadership in every way. Who is being led, how they are being led, and where we are going. Leaders must have the courage to reinvent vision, mission, strategy, and values as the world around them transforms rapidly.

Board members and senior executives must go beyond basic AI literacy; those who lag behind will be at a considerable disadvantage. Leaders must also strengthen their own self-awareness and adaptive capacity to operate effectively under conditions of uncertainty.

CEOs and CHROs face a paradox. There is an urgent need to develop the workforce, while at the same time navigating profound uncertainty about roles, skills, and the future composition of the organization. Leaders must guide people through this ambiguity while maintaining direction and cohesion.

AI can be used to strengthen collaboration and decision-making, and to accelerate individual development in ways that are increasingly tailored to personal characteristics. Advances in industrial psychology and cognitive science will further enhance our ability to use AI to accelerate human development.
