WG5 - Industries of the Future

Context

As AI accelerates product development and orchestration, new technology architectures are emerging that reshape supply chains and redefine the boundaries of industries.

The post-industrial transition is driving a shift toward embedding intelligence everywhere. As the cost of intelligence approaches zero, industries are becoming more dynamic, more distributed, and more tightly interconnected. Traditional boundaries are beginning to dissolve, while new industries emerge at their intersections.

This shift is already taking shape across industries. AI-native services, autonomous logistics networks, and new forms of manufacturing are emerging. Robotics is evolving from specialized automation toward general, intelligence-driven systems operating in unstructured real-world environments.

New energy systems. From advanced batteries to micro-reactors. Are changing what can be built and where. Infrastructure is extending beyond traditional boundaries, from autonomous terrestrial systems to space-based computing and early off-world production. Edge computing, robotics, AI, and advanced sensors are transforming agriculture and water infrastructure. Autonomous ground and air mobility systems are becoming part of our landscape, carrying people and goods. In warfare, drones have already reshaped the battlefield.

As the cost of orchestration, design, and execution continues to fall, the range of economically viable activities expands dramatically. Entire categories of products, services, and infrastructure that were previously infeasible are becoming possible.

There are tremendous opportunities to develop new industries and transform existing ones. Doing so requires understanding how industry structures are evolving, where value is being created and captured, and how to position effectively in a rapidly changing landscape.
