He also leads a new commercialization services group that partners with U.S. Government and enterprise clients to improve the impact of R&D investments, including SRI’s DARPA Commercial Accelerator program that works with universities and startups to accelerate the commercialization of DARPA-funded technologies.
 
Prior to joining SRI as part of the merger of Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), Lawrence was Vice President of Strategy & Planning at Xerox, where he developed Xerox’s Deep Tech venture studio that launched 4 startups and led global R&D strategy. Lawrence previously worked at two software startups; he was a co-founder at Zoundry and VP of Business Development at Mirror Worlds Technologies. Lawrence holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management and is a graduate of Penn’s Management & Technology program at Wharton and the School of Engineering & Applied Science.

Dr. Zafer Sahinoglu

Dr. Zafer Sahinoglu is currently the General Manager of Mitsubishi Electric Innovation Center (MELIC Ventures), which was launched in April 2020 as the innovation and investment arm of Mitsubishi Electric in North America. He is also serving as VP Innovation at Mitsubishi Electric US (MEUS). In MEUS, he has developed and launched SaaS businesses and new products in the fields of energy management, infrastructure monitoring, touchless interfaces, connected vehicles. He has led and managed product design and agile product development, built new business models, developed technology strategies, and bundled these steps into customized processes with continuous innovation.

Zafer was a senior principal research scientist in MERL between 2001 and 2016. In his MERL years, he was an inventor on more than 80 patents, co-authored more than 100 international journal and conference papers, made more than 50 key contributions to international standards including ZigBee, IEEE 802.15.4a UWB PHY and MAC, IEEE 802.15.4e MAC, and MPEG 21. His technical expertise includes deep learning, stochastic signal processing, space-time adaptive processing, ultra-wideband and OFDMA wireless communications, and indoor localization and tracking, biomedical signal processing, and Li-ion battery modeling. He has written two books on wireless communication and localization systems published by Cambridge University Press.

Zafer received his M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering, Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ, in years 2002 and 1998, respectively; and M.B.A. degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2013.

Nir Rokovitch

Nir Rikovitch is responsible for driving MARA’s product vision forward, at the intersection of energy, AI, and computation. He brings deep expertise in product management, machine learning, and engineering leadership, with a proven track record in developing intelligent infrastructure across robotics, industrial automation, and autonomous systems.

David Vernal is a retired Air Force colonel with experience in intelligence and cyber operations. He participated in electronic warfare operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the counter-terror fight in Iraq and Syria, the growth of cyber operations, supporting nuclear planning and command-and-control at U.S. Strategic Command, and managing policy deliberations as part of the National Security Council staff. His final active-duty assignment was as Director of Intelligence for Sixteenth Air Force, the service’s information warfare headquarters.

Currently a Sloan Fellow at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, David is studying the applications of Large Language Models for national security applications. He holds a bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard University and a master’s in Taiwan Studies from National Chengchi University, where he studied as a Department of Defense Olmsted Scholar.

Juho Parviainen is passionate about creating transformative products, experiences, and businesses that accelerate positive change in the world. His craft is rooted in interaction design—particularly at the intersection of people and emerging technologies—resulting in more delightful and useful everyday products and services.

Over the past two decades at IDEO, Juho has helped lead IDEO Europe and Product Design in North America, contributing to projects across diverse sectors including retail, gaming, telecommunications, media, and health. His tenure at IDEO included a two-year assignment with IKEA’s global strategic communications team, where he developed communications and brand strategies, launched new products, and supported efforts to make the company more innovative and customer-focused.

In addition to fostering IDEO’s design community, Juho has taught human-centered design at Hyper Island—where he studied digital media and creative technology—and mentored startups at Seedcamp. He frequently lectures on the power of design at universities and organizations around the world.

Previously, Rama was an IBM Fellow, Master Inventor, and CTO of IBM Watson AIOps. Over
her career, she has led the design and development of enterprise AI products spanning
generative and agentic AI, machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), speech
recognition, human-computer interaction (HCI), decision support systems, business process
management, and semantic web services.
A TED AI speaker and W3C standards contributor, Rama has co-authored more than 100
technical papers, holds over 50 patents, and has received multiple academic and industry
honors. Some of her recognitions include four best paper awards (INFORMS, AAAI), Forbes’
Top 20 Women in AI Research (2017), Fortune Magazine ‘A-Team in AI’ in 2018, UC Berkeley’s
Athena Award (2020), and AI Industry Leader of the Year (2022) by Women Leaders in Data &
AI. She holds a master’s degree in computer science and graduated as valedictorian of her
MBA program at New York University.

Sahil Shah

Sahil Shah is the Founder and CEO of FlowState AI, a San-Francisco–based company
building the world’s first “AI Watcher” platform — enabling video content teams to
search and automate workflows over videos at scale. Previously, Sahil spent eight years
advancing autonomous systems at Waymo, Ike (acquired by Nuro), and Apple, where
he led efforts in computer vision, scene understanding, and perception for self-driving
vehicles.
With nearly fifteen years of experience in AI for visual data — spanning robotics,

automation to enterprise video. Sahil holds a Master’s from Carnegie Mellon
